The old European Commission has proposed to leave all the real and tricky questions about GMO and non-GMO coexistence to the national legislation of member states. In some of them this is also the duty of regional governments. A diversity of concepts and laws is therefor presently developed by governments all over Europe. However, there is a broad agreement, that minimum standards for co-existence, especially regarding measures to prevent GM contamination, liability, transparency and feasibility should be established also at European level.
