GMOs are products traded under the regulations of the common market within the EU as well as under the WTO trade agreements. These constitute a right to access the market with approved products, which are conflicting with consumers and farmers rights to reject GMOs and with the rights of regions to self determination. At the same time all commercially available GMOs are commodities which are traded by a small group of global trade companies. In the case of soya for instance access to GMO free supply has been severely restricted by these companies. But there are also encouraging examples how to influence international trade regarding GMOs.
